” We ask our people to mobilize through a large-scale operation called “18 years is enough” to clearly express their indignation through whistles, drums, pans, horns from next week , every Friday at 7 p.m., ” says Valentin Kabengele, Secretary General of the Movement for the Renewal of Clément Kanku Bukasa wa Tshibuabua. In a press release, he staunchly maintains that after analysis, the presidential ordinances did not violate the Constitution and that they are indeed valid and strictly applicable. The Movement for the Renewal encourages, moreover, the Head of State, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, not to be distracted, to move forward without stopping in this so-called year of actions and to continue the necessary reforms and to operate a deep cleansing by privileging the criteria of morality and competence in the army and justice. He recalls that no bargaining is acceptable in these two sectors and that the Head of State is using his discretionary power.![]()
POLITICAL DECLARATION OF THE RENEWAL MOVEMENT
Kinshasa, July 25, 2020
The Movement for the Renewal, MR in acronym, met in an extraordinary meeting to analyze the current political situation.
Indeed, after the President of the Republic, Head of State, made appointments within the army and the judiciary, we observed strong unrest in the camp of the former presidential majority.
We, the MR after review, affirm that the ordinances signed by the Head of State did not violate the Constitution, they are indeed valid and strictly enforceable.
This is why we want to warn all those who have striven to scuttle the action of the Head of State in these sectors while the entire Congolese people, opting for change, had wanted deep reforms in these key sectors of national life, which have been the object of total dysfunction against a background of instrumentalization.![]()
It is all the more surprising that when the whole of the people aspire to change and particularly those victims of recurrent insecurity in the East of the country, aspire to a real peace, the forces of the status quo prevent the Chief of the State to reorganize these two sectors to make them more efficient.
This is why we want to encourage the Head of State not to let himself be distracted and to move forward without stopping in this year called actions, to continue the necessary reforms and to operate a deep cleansing by privileging the criteria of morality and of competence in the army and justice.
And remember that no bargaining is acceptable in these two sectors; that the Head of State use his discretionary power.
In addition, we wish to recall that the rule of law cannot accommodate itself with any violation of the laws of the Republic such as we have seen certain characters, remotely guided by certain pharmacies in poor positioning, indulge in an exercise of denigration, defamation and insulting remarks against the Head of State, while most never raised a single finger when the former President of the Republic carried out the same acts under the same conditions.
We reserve the right to take legal action to hold all these offenders accountable for their actions, if the Attorney General of the Republic does not take it up.
Also, we were surprised to see the former ruling majority, in coalition with the Head of State, marching in the streets with a series of demands such as:
- respect for the Constitution, when we know that respect for the Constitution has never been their strong point during the 18 years of Joseph Kabila’s reign;
- the exchange rate, while it is their delegates who control all financial circuits including the Minister of Finance, the Governor of the Central Bank of Congo;
- insecurity in the east of the country with the multiplicity of armed groups, while the defense ministry is headed by a member of their family with officers who were appointed by the former head of state, head of their political family.
Members of this former majority would do better to repent and ask forgiveness from the Congolese people, at the risk of us asking the Head of State to reverse his decision not to snoop in the past; they know the consequences. Eighteen is enough.
While we believe those who brought this country to chaos for 18 years should ask for forgiveness and repent, we are witnessing a form of recklessness and bad faith on their part, as if to mock the people.
Therefore, we ask our people to mobilize through a large-scale operation called “18 years is enough” to clearly express their indignation through whistles, drums, pans, horns, etc. This from next week, every Friday at 7 p.m.
